Service is an integral part of academia. As such, Aerielle actively seeks opportunities to serve on departmental committees, peer review manuscripts for journals, and participate in mentoring programs. Her commitment to service extends beyond the academy, with the goal of servicing the larger community as well.
For the past eight years, she has been an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., a historically African-American international service organization whose aim is to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service, civil, and social action.
Her commitment to understanding and using awareness of racial inequality to enact societal change has not only guided her research agenda but has also compelled her to be more involved in initiatives that address conditions plaguing the community, such as those associated with health disparities, voter engagement and suppression, police interactions, and incarceration reform.
Currently, Aerielle serves as the Social Action Chair for the greater Hartford, Connecticut area as a member of the Theta Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
